Logo Illustrator

This is a logo I have done for a side project for a group on facebook for a Japanese community, made all in adobe illustrator. The red circle is the flag of japan, and the group is based in and around Buffalo New York.

Photoshop

A picture of my significant other in a kimono retouched by myself. I was going for the look of making the over all look more rich and bringing more attention to her than all things around her, while maintaining a nice balance with center and background.

Artist Statement

I am Derek Wright a visual communicator and media designer, continually learning and improving my skills and talents. My creative expression is influenced by my life and studies in Tokyo, Japan. I incorporate traditional Japanese art forms such as woodblock prints, brush painting and cartooning, with current graphic design tools and techniques, to prepare images that appeal to contemporary tastes and diverse audiences.  My work often begins with an idea that takes form as a doodle, on a napkin or back of an envelope, before moving to the computer screen. The metamorphosis continues with multiple versions, supported by research, adjusted with feedback and after consideration is finalized. The varied executions and messages in my evolving portfolio provide samples of my style and exhibits of my communication solutions. I am proud to add this most recent piece to my special collection.
